Archery Lesson 1

Okay, what did I do on Sunday?

I am not the type to document his/her activities on a daily basis. but i am doing it becuase I did something new this Sunday (that just passed)

Which was archery...

Yes...you may ask, why archery?

It is a bit hard to say, but being the little boy that I am, I grew up on stories of classical heroes. And of those, there were the expert bowsmen, Robin Hood and the Merry Men of Sherwood.

Despite criticisms, I thought Kevin Costner made Robin Hood look cool in his medieval costumes! *chuckles*

Yes...yes...I got fascinated by Legolas in Lord of the Rings (yes, I knew it was CGI, but who canever imagine an archer shooting down enemies at machine-gun rate?)

And of course, the valiant but desperate defense of Helm's Deep by the elves of Lothlorien in the Peter Jackson movie, Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers?

And that is the Korean period action movie: Musa the warrior, where the only survivor was the archer sergeant.

Anyway as I discovered, archery is not just putting the bow and shooting the arrow. You will miss, for sure!

You need the correct positioning stance, the correct grip on the bow itself, the correct drawing technique, the correct breathing technique, and the right use of strength.

With so many things to remember it wasn't easy. And sometimes I can't see the target clearly at all!

Hmm, i spent two hours there, trying to perfect the art of shooting, but I guess it is going to take a long long time. In the end, I contented myself by shooting arrows at the picture of wild cats (jaguars and such) they have as target practice...

I may not be a sharpshooter...but I think I can still shoot some animals for food bah...*chuckles*

More on archery next time...:-)

After some time...finally!!! A bit of breather!

It's been a while since I last posted.

Much has transpired in the 2-3 weeks since I last posted.

My uncle came, saw and left Singapore. (Sorry, he can't conquer it like Julius Caesar since he has no army...*chuckles*)

I got my Renault Kangoo on the last day of September. at first I couldn't get used to driving it but well, the interior of the vehicle (ok, at least the front) felt like those of a car, a 1500cc car.

And it runs on diesel, which means lower fuel costs!

Yeah, yeah, even with rising fuel costs, no thanks to Hurricane Katrina, which swept through Louisiana, USA and other circumstances.

Talk about natural disasters, I wonder about the recent spate of disasters that hit Planet Earth recently. Is it a sign of things to come? Is it a warning that we, human beings have been mistreating Mother Nature and now we are been taught a lesson?

Heaven knows. But let us spare a thought for the many people who suffered from these calamities and wish for their lives to be put right again.

Till the next post.
