Followed by a Man in Black...A real life experience

This is a real-life experience.

Hmm, yesterday while on the way back from part-time class, i was walking down from the Dhoby Ghaut area towards City Hall.

I was walking past the Kopitiam at the junction of Bencoolen Street and Orchard Road, when I noticed a Indian man in a loose-fitting black Polo shirt and jeans, asking something to a tall Caucasian man.

I was walking past the two of them, when the Caucasian left. But of course, I was walking quite fast (that is my normal pace), such that when I was about to leave the vicinity, i heard the Indian man calling out to me.

Ok, I admit I was in no mood to entertain any requests from strangers on the road last night, and in addition, I was already walking away from him.

But I got a feeling that he was following me as I walked toward the National Art Musuem (which you know is covered up due to construction works on the new Circle Line and the SMU campus)

I looked back and saw that fellow loitering around the Kopitiam area. Obviously from his furtive actions, he was wondering whether to follow me. When I stopped, he stopped and pretended to look around elsewhere.

I lost sight of him as I walked through the quiet grounds of National Art Museum. (what a nice place it was)

Then as I moved towards the NTUC Income building further down the road, I saw HIM again!

Goodness! The same Indian man was talking to another Caucasian this time, as if asking for directions.

I don't know if he recognised me, but as I walked past, he just happened to finish his conversation and start walking behind me, about 10 metres away.

My goodness! How in the world did he get past me without my noticing it? Was he a ninja or something? You see, other than using the narrow route through the National Art Musuem, the only way of walking to NTUC Income Building was along the busy Orchard Road (and there were no proper pedestrian paths there! Definitely very risky!!!)

When I reached the junction and was ready to cross over to Raffles Hotel, I took a quick glimpse back and saw him standing about 10 metres away.

The traffic lights turned green and I quickly crossed over to Raffles Hotel. As I reached the other side, I saw my shadower queue up at the traffic lights, as if ready to cross over to CHIJMES.

"Crazy bugger, I have to shake him off, whether he is really following me or not." I thought as I quickly crossed the road and entered Raffles City, which is just opposite CHIJMES.

After entering Raffles City, I went up to the second and third storeys (since I was looking for the food court.)

After getting what I wanted, I stayed around on the second floor, looking out over the main open space atrium of Raffles City. Then two thoughts came to me.

"Let the hunted become the hunter." and "Let's turn the tables on him"

And I was lucky as in the next minute, I saw that Indian fellow walking among the crowds. I dashed down the escalator and weaved my way through the crowds to reach the place where I saw him.

My feeling was that if this guy is a up-to-no-good loiterer, he will be hanging about the Starbucks area. I made my way there and indeed, voila! There he was, loitering around Starbucks, not actually going in to buy a drink, but looking at the place and walking aimlessly around.

I looked at him as I walked past and I think he sort of avoided me. I guess, without feeling too boastful, somehow I had surprised him and he didn't make any attempt to follow me as I went into City Hall MRT station to take my train.

Oh well...that is all...

I know that I am not Frodo from Lord of the Rings (being pursued by Black Riders), nor Neo from the Matrix series(who was pursued by the Agents), neither am I a space alien running away from the Men in Black (Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones)...but this was indeed a strange experience I had while on the way home last night. (don't remind me, people, I know this is the Lunar Seventh Month, but no ghost stories.)

My conclusion? I think that fellow was either a Ninja or an Agent from the Matrix...no one could have got over to the other side of the National Arts Museum in such a short time and yet overtake me, given the difficult road conditions.

I think I havee typed enough for today, till then, more from me. :-)
