Of reunions and old friends

This week has been one of memories and old remembrances for me.

Been meeting up with some of my old friends and classmates. Guess that many of my old classmates are doing comfortably well in their careers since graduation from the polytechnic 6-7 years ago(?)

Wow that's a long time, it seems?

It's funny that when you are young, you just want the time to go quickly so that you can do whatever adults do...a high-flying or stable career, earn lots of cash, buy houses, own credit cards, have fun, travel the globe, get to know more interesting people, get hitched, have kids, watch R(A) movies...

Ok, the above examples are not meant to be a generalization of the way things work out in real life, so don't throw rotten tomatoes at me, ok? Of course, I know that each person has their own unique lifestyle, so I don't want to paint everything with a broad brush.

Well, back to the topic, when you are older, you reach the age that you thought was "adult" enough...you find that there is so much to explore, so much to learn, so much yet to achieve, so many things to take care of and worry about. You will see that life isn't so simple after all...isn't that true?

Let's face it. Life is never meant to be a bed of roses, that's my opinion. Partly because of my own experiences, partly due to the stories that I heard from others in my circle. You don't have everything easy.

Let's see. If you struggle early in life, chances are that you will realise your hard work and strive your hardest to make it to the top. If you have it too easy, you may get complacent and lose your drive and focus. There have been people who went wayward and squandered their talents.

There's got to be fairness in this, right?

Anyway, it just goes to remind me that I am convinced that I am in a tough patch, nowhere as near as I wanted to be...heck! Well, the only way to go is up, right? Let's go forth and conquer then!

More on this chap's progress in climbing out of the rut in future.
