Almost a Hobbit

It was with chatting with a friend that I remembered that I almost became a Hobbit this year...

Hobbit? Are you sure about that? You mean the Hobbits that were so beautifully written by Tolkien and later fleshed out oh so nicely in the LOTR movies?

Yes...late last year, after I had left my previous company, I was wandering around on the cold wintry streets (haha, this is laying on it a little too much!)

Anyway, I saw this ad that were looking for actors/actresses to play the parts of characters from the Lord of the Rings. Ok, you people know that I am hot on LOTR, so you can expect me to be 100% interested.

So I went down to this place near Tekka Market, where the audition was being held. So actually this was in conjunction with the LOTR exhibtions that was being held in London and will be coming to Singapore before goingto Boston. The organizer wanted to hold a series of roadshows held at major shopping centres that involve some figures from LOTR with a fictional Singaporean character.

I read for the part of Frodo Baggins....well...literally read. The organizer wanted to cast me as Frodo, but then due to my ongoing studies and work, I could not accept. However he was still willing to let me play-act as one of the Hobbit "models" walking around in the exhibition halls. Sounds not bad at all...

Except that two weeks later, he called up to inform that the main sponsors had decided to do away with the roadshows. Thus no roadshows, no need for "actors", and also no need for Hobbit models...argh!!!

Oh well, that was a dream that nearly came true...now thinking if I had become a Hobbit, even for a day...I would have curly hair...

Now wouldn't that make me look like Phua Chu Kang from the comedy TV series PCK Pte Ltd?

"Don't play play ar!"
